I really like TV. I don’t watch much, but when I do, I really like it.
One show I really like in particular is Parks and Recreation.
Aziz Ansari’s character Tom has a hilarious line in a classic episode (paraphrasing):
“I know in 20 years I’ll be on a million-dollar yacht with my gorgeous wife, I just have to stick it out at this dead-end job until then.”
The joke, of course, is that just waiting isn’t going to make Tom rich enough to buy a yacht.
But there’s a layer under the joke that should sting a bit.
Because this joke should make you realize that no one else is going to buy you a yacht. No one else is going to make you rich, or make you fit, or make you whatever you want to be.
Maybe it felt different when you were a kid, but here in the real world, you have to get what you want for yourself.
What have you done TODAY to get the life you want?
