One of the biggest sources of stress (which is a happiness antagonist) is big decisions.

Well, decisions that feel big at least.

Next time you’re stressing over a big decision, ask yourself “what is the worst case scenario?”

Then really spell it out, make it super explicit in your head.

Chances are good that the worst case scenario isn’t very bad.

See, there’s no reason to be stressed at all!

Interestingly, similar stress is caused by the opposite of big decisions – situations where you feel powerless.

I had one recently. I was late for a flight and my Uber was stuck in traffic. I could just feel the panic rising inside me, trying to swallow me up whole.

Then I asked myself, “What’s the worst case scenario?”

I would miss my flight, and since it was the last one of the night, I’d have to go back home and get up early for tomorrow morning’s flight. Then I’d have to push my lunch meeting at my destination back by an hour.

Hey that’s not really bad at all – I’d even get to sleep in my own bed instead of a hotel.

Boom – happy. Try it!
